5G iPhone 12 Models Delayed Till Fourth Quarter of 2020
While we are all waiting eagerly for the launch of the iPhone 12 that is expected to be held in September, Qualcomm’s earnings reports for the third quarter for this year has noted a period in the fourth quarter that is the period between July and September has “a partial impact from the delay of a global 5G flagship phone launch.” And we fear that this could be the upcoming iPhone 12 series. Qualcomm did not said any name in particular but it is not that hard to guess as Apple iPhone 12 launch was scheduled for September. Qualcomm CFO Akash Palkhiwalia said, “We’re seeing a partial impact from the delay of a flagship phone launch. And so what we’ve seen is a slight delay that pushes some of the units out from the September quarter to the December quarter for us.” Now the interesting thing is that Qualcomm’s December quarter includes October, November, and December. So if we keep Palkhiwalia’s statement in mind we are seeing the launch to be delayed till October. Apple is expected to launch four iPhone variants in the iPhone 12 series and it is expected that only the Pro and Pro Max variants will have 5G support so we might see the usual launch of the smaller iPhone 12 models in September and the 5G iPhone 12 models might be delayed for the launch in October or some later time this year. It will be interesting to see how Apple will unveil the iPhone 12 series will it delay the launch for the 5G iPhone 12 models or plan something different.
